Remembering James Stedeford

The Stedfest is a celebration of James Stedeford's life, a day dedicated to remembering a truly special individual. Discover more about the man who inspired it all.

A remarkable man

James was, and remains, one of the best humans many of us have ever known. He was a beacon of resilience, love, and kindness. A great listener, level-headed, and calm, he welcomed everyone into his life. People from all walks of life would trust him, both professionally and personally.

Despite numerous health struggles with his eyes over the years, he faced everything with immense bravery and simply got on with life. James was a simple man who cherished his home comforts and, above all, his family. His presence made a profound impact on everyone he met.

Even when he was taken ill on the last family holiday in July 2025 he fought endless tests, procedures, pain & discomfort with positivity & that cheeky smile. Unfortunately it was all too much for his body and it shut down on 22nd July 2025. He was surrounded by his family and drifted off peacefully in his sleep.

Passing at 43 years old is nothing less than a tragedy which is why we will continue to make him proud and tell his story for years to come.

His cherished passions

James had a few passions that truly lit up his life. He was a devoted fan of the Liverpool football team, following every match with enthusiasm. The endless tones of 'You'll never walk alone' as the players walk on to the pitch, the cheering and the boo's. He really did immerse himself in every game.

His children were his world, and he adored every moment spent with them. The squawbles, the laughter, the repetitive asks and the endless cuddles. Anything they felt, he felt and would always be there with open arms to offer that safe & loving place. Having 4 boys was his blessing and will certainly ensure the Stedeford name & legacy continues over the generations to come.

James was also a very valued member of the Procurement Team at the University of Reading, having recently worked his way up the ranks securing Category Manager. A trusted 'go to' for many colleagues, coming up with new ideas and ways of working and maintaining such a wonderful relationships alongside his amazing humor and happy go lucky outlook.

One of his favorite holiday destinations to go was Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. Only last year did he decide to get the ball rolling and look at an investment holiday home on the island. From the sea views, balcony's & calm the area brings, it was the one place he could really unwind.

Away from the excitement of football, holidays and family, James found joy in the simpler things: reading the daily mail, immersing himself in Netflix documentaries and films, and his unique habit of 'shazamming' songs from TV shows. These small details paint a picture of a man who found contentment in his everyday life.

James really did think he was on the way to 'Living the Dream'.

Supporting the British Liver Trust

James's life was tragically impacted by liver failure. In his memory, we feel it is incredibly important to raise funds for the British Liver Trust. This charity does vital work, and by supporting them, we can help others facing similar challenges. The Stedfest is proud to contribute to their mission, turning our loss into a beacon of hope for others.
